19.september: IMBB - raise your spirits high If you are unaware of the now infamous, world-wide monthly cooking blog extravaganza, it is something to behold. This month should prove to be no different and may even spark a few flames with it's "theme": cooking with wine and spirits (I did explain the origins in my last IMBB entry, if you're interested). This month's burlesque show is hosted by the web's social sommelier -- Donna -- of There's a Chef in My Kitchen. Often I have struggled to find the quintessential recipe for the IMBB monthly events -- not that I wasn't excited about participating, more that I wanted to find just THE recipe for the occasion. I wanted to highlight my own skill properly and as well make something that would appeal to other people reading and participating in the Blog Burning escapades along with me. This time I had no such difficulty -- I had a recipe in mind immediately that I have been wanting to try for a while now...but haven't found an excuse. Had I known how simple the recipe was going to be I might have made it sooner! About six months ago Jamie Oliver showed us all just how crazy he actually is by hiring 15 underprivileged kids and turning them into chefs for his new restaurant. His insanity was show-cased on television every week in a show aptly named "Jamie's Kitchen". The show spawned a cookbook of the same name, which I bought for S. for Christmas list past year. During one episode he showed his minions how to poach a beef steak in wine...S. and I watched, drooling as I sketched out the recipe from what he was saying. Upon buying the cookbook I was happy to find the recipe was included and vowed to make this dish...someday. As soon as Donna announced this month's theme I announced to S. that I was going to make that wine poached tenderloin for dinner and today we indulged. It was absolutely fantastic -- of course it might have had a great deal to do with the gorgeous cuts of beef we picked up this morning from the butcher...like butter, it was. So, hats off to Donna for choosing this theme and to everyone else who participated in yet another amazing Blog Burning Endeavor!
