As most people who read this site are (possibly painfully?) aware by now, I am attempting to start up a small at-home dessert business. You know that old adage, find something you love to do...and find a way to make money at it? Well, I love to bake. I do like to cook, I do enjoy cooking...but it goes that one step further when it involves sweets, for some reason. I really enjoy making them (even if lately I am trying to deny myself these tempting little beauties!).

My good friend, Anne, being the supportive person she is, asked me to flex my culinary fingers recently and do some dessert catering for a bridal shower she was throwing for a close friend (my first order! how exciting!). After a few emails back and forth and a quote, she and I had settled on Chocolate-covered strawberries, a cookie tray (cookie recipes to come at a later date) and 36 iced and decorated cupcakes (12 chocolate, 12 vanilla and 12 strawberry).

I was pretty happy that everything was completed on time, and looked great when I delivered it all to her that morning. When I opened the boxes of the cupcakes, the two little girls who happened to be there started calling me the "Cupcake Lady"...something that I am not ashamed to admit made me kind of nervously happy, and just slightly giddy with their giggles. Anne also told me that a few of her guests thought that the cupcakes had been bought at a fairly expensive cupcake store in the neighborhood...another happy moment for the Sweetish Chef.

My first order: done...and done well. I'm now researching wedding cakes...for a few different reasons...! (hint, hint)
