January 2004 - Curry Flurries
Is
anyone else sick of this crazy winter yet? Normally I don't mind
this long, cold season so much, but Toronto has really been hit
with some crappy weather in the last month.
First
it was the sub-zero temperatures and cheek-burning winds; leaving
the house was a test in how many layers I could put on before I
woudn't fit through the door. Now it's the snow that the weather
guys are saying is the worst snowstorm since 1999 (when Mayor
Mel Lastman called in the army to save us... remember that?);
the streets and sidewalks are piled with snow and walking or even
driving anywhere is impossible.
Today
the power actually went out in one grid in the city around 10:30
am, affecting from Queen Street north to College and from University
east to Victoria. Because of this, S. was home early (lucky
him, he works in that grid!) and was greeted with a fresh loaf
of home-made whole wheat buttermilk bread when he walked in the
door.
With
the blustery winds and snow piling up outside I thought something
warm and stew-like was in order for dinner this evening. My friend
Anne had emailed me a delicious sounding recipe last week for an
Eggplant and Cauliflower
Curry that was the perfect thing for us to have tonight.
It
took very little work (as most saucy stew-type-things do)
and made the kitchen smell delicious. I only wish I wasn't on this
carb- and fat-reduced diet these days because it would have been
perfection with some jasmine rice, naan, raita salad and perhaps
some sag paneer. Yum. I certainly do love Indian food.
