14.february: music to cook to

I received emails from both Nicole of the baking sheet and debbie of words to eat by this past week, "tagging" me for the food blogging meme, music to cook to. My first thought was "I don't listen to a great deal of music...and I don't know anything about music anymore", and I passed the task along to S. and his extensive music tastes and knowledge. He diligently answered the questions and then sent his writing along to me.

I sat on that email for a few days, indulging myself in Sugar High Fridays (great job, Clement!) and making dinner for a good friend on Saturday night (recipes to come later). I thought about it more and more and realized that the questions, though slightly foreign to me (why, I don't know, I did used to work in a record store for crying out loud!), were directed at the food blogger in the house. And, although I have tried to convince S. to start a food blog himself he has yet to do that...and having him answer the questions for me was taking the easy way out.

So...without further ado...

What is the total amount of music files on your computer?

0. Zero. Zilch. None. Not. One. Single. Solitary. Song. It's strange, I know, but before my hard drive crashed and burned last March I had a lot of music on it. After the crash I simply just didn't put it back on (the drive was unsalvageable)...it's the one thing on this laptop that I just can't recreate in any way. My music collection is lost forever.

The CD you last bought?

I bought the 1st Joss Stone CD, "Soul Sessions" as a gift for a friend for Christmas last year...before that I can't remember...it has been a long time since I've had to buy a CD with music being so readily available from other resources. Perhaps the Shea Segar CD, "The May Street Project"...but there must have been something since then that I just can't recall.

What was the last song you listened to before reading this message?

I heard Peter Gabriel's cover of "The Book of Love" - originally by The Magnetic Fields while watching "Shall We Dance" about an hour ago...not the greatest movie, but very sweet and simple...good when you're sick at home on Valentine's Day.

Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.

1. "Question" by the Old 97's. This was the song I walked down the aisle to at our wedding. Of course the fact that it is now being used in a PlayStation NHL game commercial irks me a bit...but I still love it.

2. "After All" by Dar Williams. For some reason it makes me think of the letters my parents wrote to each other when they were first married but had to spend a year apart because my mom was quite sick after having their first child.

3. "The Book of Love" by The Magnetic Fields. Love it, love it, love it. The Peter Gabriel version is a bit off, not as melodic as the original.

4. "Designs on You" by the Old 97's. When S. and I saw them in concert a while ago the lead singer had these crazy legs and I want to dance just like him whenever I hear that song.

5. "Return to Me" by Dean Martin...this song just tugs at my heart whenever I hear it.

Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?

Wow. I don't know - I think I might be the very last person to receive this, so who am I supposed to pass it to?

Kat, of fickle feline...who isn't a food blogger, but she has written about food on occasion, and I think she would definitely do this questionnaire justice. And she's a fellow Torontonian to boot!

Clement, of a la cuisine! who just wrote an excellent round-up for Sugar High Friday #5 (Puff Pastry) and is a fellow Torontonian.

Daphne, of the edible tulip who has recently fallen in love and will surely write about a bunch of gorgeous love songs...! Yet another Torontonian...I followed a theme there, didn't I?
